Upcoming Tree Work

If you have braved the snow lately and made it out on the golf course over the past couple of days you have noticed some trees have been tagged with pink or orange tape. In the next couple of weeks a tree service will be on property removing potential harmful trees to greens, fairways, tees, and golfers. Myself and three Certified Arborists have observed the property and evaluated our tree’s quality, life expectancy, and population of species. There are various trees around the course marked as potential removals or limbing out.  (Not every tree that is marked is definitely coming out) All trees tagged for removal will be reviewed by various Club Officials and Members Chairs to ensure these trees do not effect the strategy or aesthetics of the golf course.

Orange flagged trees represent removal of the tree with the stump ground out and removal of the tree material off the golf course. Pink flagged trees represent limbing out, which involves a tree climber entering the tree and removing unnecessary limbs inside the tree canopy to allow light through.

For trees that are in the green’s surrounds and scheduled for removal or limbing out have been chosen to allow bentgrass to have at least 8 hours of sunlight which is required for optimum growth.  This process will be delicate to ensure each green has proper growing conditions and at the same time not destroy the function or aesthetics of the green’s surround.

Other trees throughout the course have been marked as potential hazards to golfers from falling limbs or health of the tree that will eventually die or fall. Also some trees have been marked due to shade issues to bermuda grass areas and golf ball flight that may be blocked from encroachment of the tree canopies.

The tree work has been scheduled to begin on Monday February 14, 2011. A location tree service, Poteet Tree Service, out of Hendersonville has won the bid. The tree service is very knowledgeable and value quality clean work. We are excited to develop a partnership with the owner, Dale Poteet and his company, and look forward to building a long standing relationship with their operation.
