Irrigation Pond Leak

Over the past years a slow leak in the irrigation pond on #14 and #16 has developed. The pond is the primary source of water to supply the golf course and keep everything growing. Recently, with the bunker renovation on hold, due to weather, the Mini Excavator has been sitting collecting snow. Today, our staff attempted to repair the pond leak by borrowing the excavator and digging approximately 6 feet down into the pond bank to find the leak. We were successful in finding the leak. A hole about 8-10 inches in diameter mixed in the clay and rock walls of the pond floor.

With a combination of different materials, the leak was patched and we will find out soon how successful our efforts were. We will begin filling the irrigation pond on Sunday in anticipation of running water Monday to irrigate fertilizer on the greens and take advantage of the weather coming, to finish out the grow in. If the leak repair works, the task of filling the pond every night will no longer be needed and valuable dollars spent to power the transfer station will saved.
