The leaf season at Bluegrass is upon us. Over the last week the leaves have slowly begun to fall and the 30 mph winds that came with the storms last Thursday we reached the half way point of the leaf season in nearly a 2 day period. The leaf battle is a constant motion of blowing and mulching. The staff on a routine basis have a blower and 2 rotary mowers with mulching blades that progress through the course directing leaves into the fescue areas or out of play areas where mowers shred and disperse the leaves.
On many occasions the battle shows no signs of progress when leaves continually fall after being recently cleaned. Today, for example, greens were rolled and bunkers racked cleaned when 20 minutes later it appeared no worked had ever been done for more leaves had fallen on the green.
With another day estimated with 30 mph winds the battle will be long, but the staff will continue to use every resource possible to win the war.
