Softening Greens Slopes

The course has opened and hopefully you have had a chance to play. If you have, you might have noticed some sod work along the edges of the greens. During the grow in, we began to observe the outside slopes of the greens were rigid and causing the greens mowers to scalp the green. In an effort to help eliminate this problem we stripped the sod and leveled the sand in the green to contour the slope smoothly, before replacing the sod. Our efforts were successful but unfortunately there are multiple places throughout the course. After our first true aerification, in September, we will have a better chance of correcting these slopes, by rolling, while the greens are softer from aerification.

In the mean time, we are also using other methods such as extended greens rollers. These are two tiny rollers attached to the outside of the mower which creates a wider stance on the green and less scalping in a severe slope or tight turn.
